Tourism in Belize Hits Another Record

Belize once again smashes tourism records.

This year’s tourism numbers are in and Belize has once again hit noteworthy records! In fact, the number of overnight arrivals reached 13% which is the largest yearly increase since 1997. That’s just over 44,000 more visitors than the previous year.

In order to accommodate Belize’s growing tourism industry, a number of airlines have added service to Belize including Southwest and American from major US hubs in both Denver and Houston while, WestJet added direct service to Belize from Canada for those flying out of Toronto.

Cruise ship tourism also reached over 1 million arrivals. These numbers were up 4.9% from 2015 and are expect to continue rising due to the addition of both the Harvest Caye Cruise line and The Carnival Vista.

It’s no wonder that Belize has become a mecca for tourists. The recent mentions in the New York Times’ article on Simone Biles, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist and Vogue’s article about the best travel destinations along with the celebrities draws including Leonardo DiCaprio’s Blackadore Caye and Francis Ford Coppola’s private island.

This is an exciting time for Belize’s tourist industry and we can’t wait to see the numbers for the coming year.
